Oh my gosh gorillas, it’s mighty cold out there!
Just been for a run and I was into my second loop before my fingers and toes lost their chill. And it’s only just December, not even real winter yet…
It’s really hard to motivate yourself to train for the Great Gorilla Run in such inclement conditions, but we have to keep on pushing, whatever the weather.
What you need is a treat to look forward, a reward for braving conditions more suited to a polar bear than a gorilla, something like… Baked Bananas with rum and ice cream.
INGREDIENTS
(makes enough for four ‘normal’ servings or one post-run, hungry gorilla-sized serving!)
4 large or 6 medium bananas, halved lengthways
2 tbsp (25g) butter
1/4 cup (50g) caster sugar
grated rind and juice of 1 orange
grated rind and juice of 1 lemon
A healthy, silverback-sized splash of dark rum
Ground cinnamon
Vanilla ice cream
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Arrange the bananas in a buttered baking dish.
2. Dot with the butter and sprinkle with the sugar and orange and lemon rinds.
3. Mix together the fruit juices and rum, if using, and pour over the top.
4. Bake in a preheated moderate oven 160°C (325°F) Gas mark 3 for 30 minutes.
5. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon and serve hot with ice cream - yum!
