When 10 gorilla-suited adrenaline junkies descend the outside of an office block it could only be Great Gorillas. On a balmy day, in the centre of London, a crowd formed at the bottom of the Riverwalk building, located on the south side of the Thames.
30 metres above the crowd 10 Great Gorillas gazed across the London skyline, psyched and ready to descend the 11 storey building.
Applause and cheers from the crowd below followed as one by one the abseilers decended to waiting friends and family.
It was no mean feat, especially in a gorilla suit on such a warm summer’s day, but all 10 gorillas descended while in the full gorilla suit, some also in their gorilla mask.
It was a fantastic achievement, and so far the Gorilla Abseilers have raised over £1,000 for the Gorilla Organization’s conservation and development programme - helping to save the few remaining gorillas, while helping to build sustainable communities for some of the poorest people in Africa.
Many thanks to Richard, Beth, Louisa, Peter, Graham, Dizzy, Emma, Sarah and Tom who shall forever be known as The Gorilla Abseil Team 2009.
