Disco GorillaDisco GorillasDisco became a worldwide phenomenon with the release of Saturday Night Fever starring John Travolta, in 1977. The soundtrack of which is the best selling of all time with classic disco hits such as the Bee Gees, ‘Stayin Alive’, ‘You Should be Dancing’ and ‘Night Fever’ and KC and the Sunshine Bands ‘Get Down Tonight!’ We bet Disco Gorilla’s stereo was blasting with euphoric disco beats all around the Great Gorilla Run course!

Although there was a disco backlash in 1979, no one can deny the amazing impact disco has had. Disco tunes are still being sampled in modern music by artists such as Jay-Z, R Kelly and Snoop Dogg, and everyone loves a cheesy dance to chic ‘le Freak’ on a Saturday night, especially Disco Gorilla!

With its musical roots and influences in funk and soul, much of the characteristics of disco such as free form dancing, trippy  lighting and costumes full of colour were taken from psychedelic and hippie culture. Disco Gorilla embraces these traits with bright, neon flares, huge Heart-glasses and the trademark disco Afro!

If you want to dress up and boogie round the Great Gorilla Run as a disco gorilla or any other character, sign up for the 2010 run now! All proceeds go to conservation projects to preserve endangered wild gorillas.
