The Great Gorilla Run started a long time ago - 5 years to be precise. A lot has changed since then.
In 2003, 400 Great Gorilla pioneers, every single one of them dressed in a gorilla suit, ran, jogged or walked through the streets of London to raise money to help save the Mountain gorilla.
Since then:
- Over 3,000 people have run
- Over £1 million has been raised for gorillas
- A World Record has been set for the largest gathering of people in gorilla suits.
- Great Gorilla Run San Francisco in 2007 was a huge success
- We've also built an extraordinary community of gorilla dressers and brought about a massive upturn in the numbers of people turning up at parties dressed from head to toe in fur.
The word on the street is that running in a gorilla suit is very cool. But that's not true - it's actually very, very warm, but there's nothing quite like being a part of our furry pack of runners.

A hilarious event. Sheer genius. I haven't run and laughed so much - ever!"
